Why Romania?

To answer to that question I will go back to an experience I had in 1996. I was with a team from the United States, working with some people in the region around Brasov, a City in the heart of Romania. Being responsible for the well being of the team, I left the hotel to purchase some food. On my way back, knowing that they are waiting for me I was in a hurry. Suddenly a child about six years of age appeared in front of me and seeing the bread in my bags asked for a loaf of bread. I almost ran him over, but I moved quickly to one side and passed him in a hurry. Just then it hit me. It was like a baseball bat hit me on the head. I stopped, turned around wanting to help, but he disappeared. I am not exaggerating but it felt like the ground swallowed him. With a conscience ravished by guilt, I searched for him for half an hour, but without success.

“To this day I now that child was hungry and I passed him by!”

That day I promised that I will go back to Romania and continue my work to help children in distress. I know that my work will be over only when I will find that child.

How interesting that I am not even looking for him in the same City, but with much help and many volunteers, I covered much territory, helped thousands of children and still looking!

Reach Out To Romania is a nonprofit corporation endorsing the journey to make a difference in the lives of Romanian children one child a time.

I sincerely hope that you will become part of our journey.

Blessings,
